How to accept a self-signed certificates?
For those that are annoy by the security message whenever you browse into a self-signed certificate site, the only way to do this is to import the certificate into your computer so that next time when you browse to the same site it won’t prompt you with the security question.
Browser Error
Certificate Error: There is a problem with this website’s security certificate.
Solution
Import the website to your computer first.
IE 7 and 8
- Make sure you have Administrator rights
- Start up Internet Explorer 7
- Click Continue to this website (not recommended)
- Click on the ‘Certificate Error‘ on the right of the website URL.
- Click on the ‘View certificates‘ at the bottom
- Click on “Install Certificate…” then ‘Next‘
- Choose ‘Place all certificates in the following store‘ and click on ‘Browse‘
- Select ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities‘ and click on ‘‘OK‘
- Choose ‘Next‘ and ‘Finished‘ to add the certificate
- A security warning will pop up, choose ‘Yes‘ to install this certificate
- Close and relaunch Internet Explorer
* Some users have reported that the above steps do not work. Another simply solution is to save the certificate with IE 6 and then import it into IE 7 or 8.
Firefox
- Make sure you have Administrator rights
- Start up Firefox
- Browse to the site that has the certificate error
- Press ‘OK‘ if you see an alert pop up
- On the ‘Secure Connection Failed‘ page, click on the ‘Or you can add an exception’
- Click on ‘Add exception‘
- Click on ‘Get certificate‘
- Click on ‘Confirm Security Exception‘
