How to check the port speed and duplex setting?
To verify the port speed and duplex setting on a Linux machine, do the following:
Type mii-tool in the command prompt.
Output: eth0: negotiated 10baseT-FD, link ok
The output shows that it is connected on a 10MB and using Full Duplex.
* When making a port connection, always make sure the speed and duplex matched up between the device (pc’s network connection) and the switch’s port. For client computer setting, usually we set it to Auto for both the Speed and Duplex setting. The only time to manually edit the speed and duplex settings is when connection switch to switch or router). This helps prevent any speed and duplex issues.
