How to transfer FSMO roles?
FSMO Roles
There are five FSMO Roles
– Schema
– Domain Naming
– PDC Emulator
– RID
– Infrastructure
How to transfer Schema role?
1. You have to register the ‘schmmgmt.dll’ file.
- start the command prompt by typing ‘CMD’ in the RUN menu.
- type in “regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll” to register the library
2. Now once registered, start up the ‘Active Directory Schema’ application by using MMC and connect to your schema server.
3. Press Specify and type in the name of the new server for the schema role
4. Right-Click the ‘Active Directory Schema’ and press ‘Operation Masters’
5. Press the ‘Change’ button
How to transfer Domain Naming role?
1. From the ‘Administrator Tools’ open up the ‘Active Directory Domains and Trusts‘ application
2. Choose the server that will hold the ‘domain naming’ role
3. Right-Click the ‘Active Directory Domains and Trusts‘ and press ‘Operation Masters’
4. Press the ‘Change’ button
How to transfer PDC Emulator,RID Master, and Infrastructure role?
1. From the ‘Administrator Tools’ open up the ‘Active Directory Users and Computers‘ application
2. Make sure you are connected to the server that hold these roles
3. Right-Click the ‘Active Directory Users and Computers‘ and press ‘Operation Masters’
4. Press the ‘Change’ button
